Hospitality Volunteers
When you don’t have a home, don’t have a kitchen, or don’t have any space to prepare even the most basic meal, Maggs is an essential lifeline. Our hospitality volunteers prepare hot, homemade breakfasts for people who are experiencing homelessness.
You can choose from cooking breakfasts in our day centre kitchens or assisting with the preparation, serving and clearing away of meals, making drinks and serving the cakes during our coffee mornings, each is a vital role within our day centres.
The hours are between 9am – 11am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or 9am – 13:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we also offer a coffee morning. This all takes place in our Worcester Day Centre and 8:30am – 10am, Tuesday and Friday in our Malvern Day Centre.

We have retail opportunities available in our Clothing Project, from sorting donations as and when they come in, to supporting our service users to find the items they need when they’re in store. Our Clothing Project is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 9am – 12pm. This role is vital as we strive to give our service users a genuine shopping experience, offering them the choice of quality and functional items in a life where there may be little choice and control. We also provide a range of household and electrical items for those who are about to take up a tenancy and begin to create a home.

COURIER VOLUNTEERS
Here at Maggs, we’re looking for volunteers to help support our team with picking up food deliveries from local supermarkets. This is an ad-hoc role which requires flexibility around the timing of supermarket donations, usually once a week. This food would otherwise go to waste, but we are able to use it to keep our kitchen and food bank well stocked and varied for our service users to enjoy.
Application FormADMIN VOLUNTEERS
As with any organisation, administration and paperwork comes with the territory. We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic Volunteer Office Administrator who will play a key role in supporting Maggs and streamlining some of our processes. Perhaps you are looking to gain experience in the homeless sector, enhance your CV or perhaps you have lots of experience and a few hours to spare. This is a flexible role which could be tailored to your needs.

ACTIVITY VOLUNTEERS
New to 2023, having had to suspend our previous activity timetable during Covid, we have recently reintroduced art sessions every Tuesday and we would like to offer a wider range of activities for our winter programme. Our service users really value the opportunity to engage in something new or to pick up a hobby from a more settled time in their lives.
We have no fixed ideas but would be very interested in hosting volunteers who might like to offer their time and skills to our service users in their area of interest. You might be an avid knitter, musician, a skilled CV writer or poet, we would be keen to hear from you and give you the opportunity to make a huge difference in somebody’s life.
Application FormEXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR 2024!
It is an exciting time to be part of this project as our donations increase, and we develop new revenue streams. We’re very fortunate to have lots of items donated from the public that are beautiful and have value but sadly unsuitable for our service users, our goal to make the most of these items and assure our kind supporters that, the service users who access Maggs across Worcestershire are still directly benefiting.
As part of this development, we also have a new opportunity available to open our very own, Maggs eBay or Vinted store and are seeking a small team of volunteers to make this service their own. We are also planning a large pop-up event where we can sell surplus stock to the public as a regular means of fundraising.

VOLUNTEER WITH MAGGS
THERE'S NO PRESSURE
We work with what you want to offer as we appreciate that your time is precious and want our volunteers to feel comfortable in their chosen roles. We offer training and support, and our staff will always accompany you on your shift. Equally, if you want to bring new ideas to the table or see an opportunity for a role to develop, we’re open to having those conversations.

"Volunteering every week at Maggs has shown me that each individual can make a difference within their local community. When I can answer a question, solve a problem or make a service user feel heard, I know that I have been helpful. The hard work of the case workers and outreach teams is apparent and helps create a welcoming and growth orientated environment for everyone."
