In this blog, Melissa Blewitt — Fundraising, Communications & Relationships Manager at Maggs — reflects on her two-year anniversary with the charity.
She offers a heartfelt behind-the-scenes perspective on what it’s like to support frontline services, the impact of everyday moments, and why she believes Maggs is only just beginning to realise its full potential as it heads into its 40th year:

It’s been two years since I joined Maggs — and while I’m more used to writing blogs about our work than being the one in the spotlight, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what these last two years have meant.

You don’t often hear directly from the head office team. That’s intentional. We’re here to support and shine a light on the incredible work our frontline staff do day in and day out — and honestly, they deserve every bit of that spotlight. Their compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to our service users continues to inspire me daily. This blog is, as ever, about them.

But it’s also about what it means to be part of a charity like Maggs — whether you’re in direct delivery or working behind the scenes on fundraising, communications, and coordination.

In the last two years, I’ve had the privilege of leading two Christmas campaigns, launching new events, supporting partnerships across Worcestershire, and working with schools, colleges, businesses and local councils to grow our impact. I’ve also witnessed firsthand the power of small moments: a hot meal shared, a milestone reached, a story told with pride.

We’ve had chaotic (but brilliant) netball tournaments, warm open days, powerful art exhibitions, and quietly transformative moments of trust between staff and service users that never make it to social media — but which stay with you long after you hear about them.

Maggs is more than a service. It’s a team of people who show up — early, late, and everything in between — not just because it’s their job, but because they care deeply. And that includes the often unsung heroes in our kitchens, laundries, clothing projects, and support teams, who bring just as much dedication and heart as anyone.

So while this is a two-year milestone for me, what it really marks is two years of being incredibly proud to work alongside people who believe in hope, dignity, and second chances.

Thank you to every colleague, partner, volunteer and supporter who’s been part of the journey so far. And to the people we support — thank you for trusting us, challenging us, and reminding us why this work matters.

Here’s to everything we’ve already done — and everything still to come.
