Recently, the Facilities team from the Diocese of Worcester approached us to offer their time to complete vital volunteer work to support our overall operations.

So we went to the projects list and one that was very much top of the list was the construction of our new shed at our Clothing Project, and we thought this was the best team to take on the job!

Steph Maton, our Volunteer Coordinator confirms: “We were delighted to have the Diocese of Worcester team join us on this unique project! It wasn’t the easiest of things to build but the team got stuck in, made it happen, all with a big smile and a few laughs!

We cannot tell you how much of a difference this has made to our entire operations, and now we have the luxury of space to store things we cannot use or are not appropriate for the warmer weather etc. Small gestures like this truly make the biggest of differences, so thank you!”

The purpose of the shed is to store all unusable donations that we send to a third-party organisation and help make vital space in our Clothing Project for donations sorting, but also items that we can use as stock on the shop floor.

HR Co-ordinator for the Diocese of Worcester, Jo Hyrons, explains: “As an organisation, we encourage our staff to take time away from work to support charity work. Last week, a small team from all parts of the business joined forces to build a shed for Maggs’ Clothing Project – Maggs is a charity close to our hearts as they do such good work in the community. Having thought the task would be pretty straightforward, as with a lot of these things it did test us when it wouldn’t “quite” fit together at the end! No problem – a bit of lateral thinking and the task was completed. Those involved had a great team building experience and it was a pleasure to support the Clothing Project – thank you for having us!”

Digital Media Officer, James Atkinson said: “It’s wonderful that we are encouraged to support charities and spend some hours volunteering. Maggs is a brilliant charity and it’s very satisfying knowing that we’ve helped in a small way to help with their operations; it was also a fun afternoon with colleagues. The next time they have a job for us we’ll be there!”

Since opening in 2003, our Clothing Project has aided our service users at whatever part of their journey. Whether this be a first-time use for a rough sleeper looking for bedding and clothing to survive the night or someone who has gained housing, we support our service users through every segment of their re-entry to society.

Our Clothing Project welcomed 1477 people alone in 2023 and offers anything from sleeping bags, roll mats and pillows to kitchen appliances, toiletries and food to those who have either been accessing our services or referred to us via local partnering agencies.

If you would like to volunteer your time with us, whether its as an individual or as part of a team, please contact us on volunteers@maggsdaycentre.co.uk.
