We’re delighted to share some exciting news for the future of homelessness support across Malvern Hills District.

From October 2026, a significant new investment from Malvern Hills District Council will help Maggs strengthen and expand the support available to people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity and related challenges across the district.

The investment of £350,000 over three-and-a-half years represents a major step forward in our shared commitment to helping people access support earlier, preventing crisis where possible, and ensuring that nobody has to navigate housing insecurity alone.

Intervention Before Crisis

Homelessness can begin earlier than one might think – many people experience housing challenges long before they lose their accommodation. These challenges might include:

  • Financial hardship
  • Tenancy issues
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Poor physical or mental health
  • Barriers to support

Too often, people only come into view when those challenges have already reached crisis point.

This new investment will allow us to take a more preventative approach, helping people access practical support, advice and guidance earlier, before problems escalate and become harder to resolve.

A Stronger Service for Malvern Hills

The strengthened service will combine a visible and welcoming support hub in Malvern with proactive outreach across the wider district.

Alongside support at the hub, our team will work throughout Malvern Hills, building relationships within local communities and ensuring people can access support wherever they live.

This is particularly important in a large rural district, where transport, distance and accessibility can often present additional challenges.

By combining local support, outreach and close partnership working with housing providers, health services, community groups and other organisations, we hope to make it easier for people to access the help they need, when they need it.

Building on Existing Foundations

Maggs has supported people experiencing homelessness and severe disadvantage across Worcestershire for more than 40 years.

We already have an established presence in Malvern, and this investment will allow us to build on that foundation, creating a stronger district-wide service focused on prevention, early intervention and long-term stability.

The service will continue to support people facing homelessness and housing insecurity while also helping address some of the factors that can contribute to homelessness, including financial difficulties, wellbeing concerns and social isolation.

A Partnership Approach

This investment reflects a shared commitment between Maggs and Malvern Hills District Council to strengthen support across the district and improve outcomes for local people.

Commenting on the investment, Jon Perry, Chief Executive of Maggs, said:

This is a really positive step forward for Malvern Hills and for the people in our communities who are struggling the most.

Too often, people only come into view once they are already in crisis. This investment gives us the opportunity to reach people earlier, provide practical and compassionate support, and help prevent a housing problem from becoming homelessness.

It also means we can build support around the specific needs of Malvern Hills. This is a largely rural district, where transport, distance and access can all make it harder.

Looking Ahead

This investment marks an exciting new chapter for homelessness prevention and support in Malvern Hills.

By working together, focusing on early intervention and building services around the needs of local people, we hope to ensure that more people can access support before they reach crisis point and that fewer people face homelessness in the future.

We’re incredibly proud to be delivering this work and look forward to continuing our partnership with Malvern Hills District Council, local organisations and the wider community to strengthen support across the district.
