The Step Up for Maggs challenge took place yesterday as part of both our 40th anniversary year and the wider Malvern Walking Festival, and we’re so excited to announce that over £6,000 was raised!

Dozens of walkers came together, from local residents, businesses, supporters, and walking groups, to complete a 10‑mile sponsored walk from Malvern Link to Worcester, showing the power of community in supporting people experiencing homelessness across Worcestershire.

A community effort

From the starting point in Malvern to the final steps into Worcester, the walk was filled with encouragement, determination, and a shared sense of purpose.

Participants were met with celebratory atmosphere at the finish line, and rewarded with free cakes kindly donated by Brookes Catering, along with water bottles provided by Hayley, Worcestershire Community Rail Officer — small but meaningful touches that helped mark the achievement after a long day on foot.

Melissa Blewitt, Maggs’ Fundraising, Communications and Relationships Manager, reflected on the event:

“This event has been such a powerful reminder of what community support can look like. People gave up their time, energy and comfort to walk 10 miles in support of others facing some of the hardest circumstances imaginable.

Crossing the £5,000 milestone is incredible, but what has stood out most has been the atmosphere around the whole event — the encouragement, kindness and genuine sense of people coming together to make a difference.”

Bringing people together

The walk was organised by Lyndon Bracewell, alongside members of Worcester Ramblers, who played a key role in coordinating the route, logistics, and wider event planning.

Melissa continues:

“We would also like to give a very special thank you to Lyndon, who voluntarily organised and coordinated the walk itself. From route planning and logistics through to ongoing support and encouragement, Lyndon dedicated a huge amount of time and energy to making the event possible, and we are incredibly grateful for his commitment to Maggs and everybody who took part.”

What this support makes possible

The funds raised through Step Up for Maggs will directly support the our vital work with people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and multiple disadvantage across Worcestershire.

This includes:

  • Day Centre services
  • Outreach and street‑based support
  • Harm reduction services
  • Clothing provision
  • Wellbeing and mental health support

Each step taken during the walk represents more than a physical journey, it helps ensure support remains accessible, compassionate, and tailored to the people who need it most.

Looking ahead

Since 1985, Maggs has supported people, across Worcester, Malvern, Redditch, and the wider county through practical, relationship‑based support grounded in dignity and care.

Step Up for Maggs is a powerful example of what happens when communities come together with purpose. As we mark 40 years, the event serves as both a celebration and a reminder: meaningful change is possible when people show up, stand together, and take action.
