Last week, we hosted our 2024 annual general meeting, and we were delighted to welcome Charles Moyle, the High Sheriff of Worcestershire 2024-2025.
Charles offered to award Maggs staff members the honourable High Sheriff award, which is dedicated to celebrating the work of individuals and organisations within Worcestershire who have made outstanding contributions to the communities in which they live or work.
Charles Moyle, High Sheriff of Worcestershire comments: “The volunteers and staff of all our charities and community organisations in Worcestershire are the very glue holding together and supporting the most vulnerable people in our county. Nowhere is this better exemplified than with the quite extraordinary team at Maggs. To a man and woman, they dedicate their lives to ensure those less fortunate have dignity, hope, food and shelter. They are in many cases ‘life savers’ and I salute their herculean efforts to help bring about a better place for all to live in.”
The first award was given to Maggs worker Margarita, who started with Maggs over 11 years ago as a volunteer and now steers the ship for our Intensive Transition Team provision.
Margarita is a passionate, driven, and exceptionally hard-working support worker who goes above and beyond to deliver 110%. Equally, she is always incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful, and a supportive colleague and will give her co-workers the same 110%.
The second goes to Sue, who has been with Maggs for 12 years as a trustee, but even more through volunteering in our day centres. Sue has been a fantastic advocate for Maggs and those experiencing homelessness for over 25 years, not only through her internal roles but also through her employment at Worcester City Council as a housing and homeless officer.
In addition, Sue is also a long-standing trustee of two other Worcester charities, Worcester Municipal and Armchair, who work closely with Maggs and only elevate Sue’s passion for delivering the best outcomes for those in need.
Andy Price, our own Chief Executive, explains: “Both Margarita and Sue have demonstrated such fabulous commitment and service to Maggs and we’re thrilled to be able to honour them in such a marvellous way. I want to thank them both for all that they have done for Maggs and the people we work with and for so passionately advocating for their needs.
Thank you to Charles for the opportunity to recognise the hard work they do and continuing to support Maggs.”
