Our at AGM in November, the SEN students who are currently providing our day centres lunches every Thursday, were invited to provide the catering for the event.

The event, attended by Maggs staff, trustees and volunteers but also councillors, CEO’s from other local charities, the High Sheriff, partnering agencies and many more, came to hear about Maggs, what we’ve been up to but also our hopes and plans for the future.

This collaboration provides valuable work experience for the learners, and ensures they will all be given the opportunity to obtain a level 2 food hygiene certificate to help with future employment in the hospitality industry.

The hope for the joint project is that we can help students build initial skills for the working world, whilst giving them an insight into vulnerable lives and homelessness. Additionally, as a college, the organisation promotes sustainability and maximises any waste and surplus food that cannot be used for the lunches, will be used to make chutneys and pickles which will be sold to raise funds for Maggs.

Melissa, our Fundraising Manager, confirms: “After the amazing impact the team have had with their day centre lunches every Thursday, it was a no-brainer that we wanted to offer the students an opportunity to cater their first big event. The service was professional, the food was delicious and was presented and delivered impeccably as if they were their very own catering company.

I have to give specific kudos to their carrot cake, as I had to try more than once piece as it was absolutely delicious!

I also wanted to extend my thanks specifically to Oliver who spoke at the end of the presentations to invite everyone to lunch and talk about the scheme. We have had nothing but glowing praise! Thank you all for your continued support and this fantastic partnership.”

Throughout 2023, our Worcester Day Centre welcomed 287 unique visitors to access our services, whether this be for food, support or their clothes washing and drying facilities and showers.
