This June, Lucy Turnbull will be taking on the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere, swimming an incredible 5km in open water in memory of her dad, Mark.

This challenge holds deep meaning for Lucy. When she was just 12 years old, she and her dad swam the half‑mile event at the very same location. Now, 12 years later (and for her 24th birthday!) she is returning to honour him by swimming more than six times that distance.

A Tribute Rooted in Compassion

Mark believed fiercely in fairness, compassion and social justice. Through his work as both a children’s social worker and a criminal defence solicitor, he dedicated his life to supporting people experiencing some of life’s toughest challenges. These values resonate deeply with our mission at Maggs, and Lucy’s decision to support us feels like a beautiful continuation of the kindness he showed to others.

An Outpouring of Support

Already, Lucy has nearly raised £2,500, supported by over 90 donors who have come together to celebrate Mark’s life and cheer Lucy on as she prepares for the swim.

Cheering Her On

Lucy, thank you. Your tribute to your dad is deeply moving, and everyone at Maggs will be supporting you from the shore in June. Your challenge honours not only his memory, but the values he held so dear: compassion, fairness and standing alongside those who need support.
