As autumn approaches and the heat of summer begins to fade, many of us look forward to the changing seasons.
For Maggs, however, this period also signals the start of preparations for winter, when demand for our services can increase and support becomes more important than ever.
While Harvest is traditionally a time of gratitude and sharing, it is also a reminder that not everyone in our community is able to enjoy the security and comfort many of us take for granted. As winter draws nearer, people experiencing homelessness and hardship often face increasing challenges, from colder weather to rising costs and growing isolation.
That’s why our annual Harvest Appeal is so important.
More Than a Donation
When people think about Harvest, they often picture food collections and donation baskets filled with tins and toiletries.
And while those items are incredibly important, Harvest is about much more than the physical donations themselves.
A warm hat can help someone face the colder months with greater comfort.
A bottle of shampoo can help somebody restore a sense of dignity and confidence.
A food parcel can ease some of the pressure of an already difficult situation.
Every donation, no matter how small, carries a powerful message: you have not been forgotten.
For many of the people we support, that’s just as important as the item itself.
Harvest is about showing compassion, strengthening community connections and reminding people that support is available when they need it most.
A Community Coming Together
Harvest has always been a time for communities to support one another.
Every year, schools, churches, businesses, community groups and individuals across Worcestershire come together to support Maggs through donations, fundraising and awareness-raising activities.
These collective acts of kindness help us prepare for winter and ensure that support remains available throughout the months ahead.
Together, small actions create a big impact.
Why Harvest Matters
Every day, Maggs supports people experiencing homelessness, poverty and multiple disadvantage across Worcestershire.
Many of the people we work alongside are facing complex challenges, including homelessness, financial hardship, poor physical or mental health, unemployment and isolation.
As winter approaches, the need for support often grows.
Harvest donations help us stock our services with the items people need most. They help us respond to emergencies, provide practical support and ensure that nobody is left facing difficult circumstances alone.
But perhaps most importantly, Harvest helps us show people that their community cares.
It reminds people that there are others willing to stand alongside them during challenging times, offering not just practical support but hope, compassion and encouragement for the future.
How You Can Help
There are lots of ways to support this year’s Harvest Appeal.
You could organise a donation drive, host a fundraiser, make a financial donation or invite Maggs to speak to your school, church, workplace or community group.
Whatever form your support takes, it will help us prepare for winter and continue supporting people across Worcestershire.
Bringing Hope This Winter
As winter approaches, we know that many people across Worcestershire will face challenges and uncertainty.
But we also know the incredible generosity of our community.
By supporting our Harvest Appeal, you’ll be helping to provide food, clothing, toiletries and other essentials. More than that, you’ll be helping people feel valued, supported and remembered.
This Harvest, help us provide warmth, dignity and hope.
Together, we can ensure that nobody has to face winter alone.
