As the clocks go back, many of us look forward to cosy nights indoors, an extra hour of rest, and the comfort of home. But for people experiencing homelessness, this time of year brings new challenges — colder weather, longer nights, and even greater isolation.

The Reality of Shorter Days

When daylight fades earlier, life on the streets becomes even harder. The temperature drops sharply after sunset, visibility decreases, and the darkness can bring fear and uncertainty for those with nowhere safe to go.

For many, the lack of light doesn’t just mean physical cold, but it also deepens the loneliness that comes with homelessness. With fewer people around after dark, the world can feel even more isolating.

How Maggs Is Helping

At Maggs, we see the impact of the changing seasons every day. Our Day Centres in Worcester and Malvern offer warmth, hot meals, showers, and someone to talk to (which is a vital lifeline during the coldest months of the year).

Our Clothing Project ensures people have access to warm, dry clothing, sleeping bags, and other essential supplies. Meanwhile, our Outreach Team continues to go out into the community, offering support to those still sleeping rough.

Our work is about more than just meeting immediate needs. It’s about offering compassion, stability, and a reminder that no one should have to face the dark alone.

How You Can Help

While winter brings a rise in need for our services, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we can continue to be there for those who need us most. Here are a few simple ways to help:

💚 Donate Online: A small contribution can go a long way in helping us provide hot meals, warm drinks, and essential supplies.
🧥 Support Our Clothing Project: Donations of practical items help people stay warm and dry through the cold months.
📣 Spread the Word: Share our message on social media and help raise awareness of homelessness in our community.

Every act of kindness helps us bring light even in the darkest of nights.
