To mark World Art Day earlier this month, our the team at our Redditch hub decided to celebrate creativity, self‑expression, and ask a simple but powerful question:

What does hope look like?

In the few weeks before World Art Day, the hub was stocked with art materials and open invitations for people to create whatever came to mind, in whatever way felt right to them.

What followed was a collection of artwork as diverse as the people who created it!

Creativity as connection

For many people accessing the Redditch hub, daily life can feel uncertain or overwhelming. Opportunities to slow down and create can offer something deeply valuable: a moment of calm, a sense of agency, and a chance to communicate feelings that are sometimes hard to put into words.

The theme of hope sparked a wide range of responses. Some pieces were bright and bold. Others were quieter and more reflective. Together, they painted a picture of what hope can mean when viewed through lived experience — not distant or abstract, but personal, practical, and hard‑won.

A space that belongs to the community

All entries to the competition will now be displayed in the Redditch hub itself, to ensure that it is shaped by the voices, experiences, and creativity of the people using it. By showcasing the artwork on the walls, the space becomes more than a service location; it becomes a shared environment, reflecting the community within it.

Visitors to the Hub will be able to see these pieces on display, and will hopefully provide a visual reminder of their resilience and self-expression.

Celebrating the winners

As part of the competition, three pieces were chosen as winners, each receiving an additional prize. Choosing was no easy task, given the thought and care that went into every entry.

The winning artworks (pictured) stood out for their creativity, meaning, and the stories they told, but all contributions were valued, and every participant played a part in making the project what it became.

Why this matters

At Maggs, we believe support should be holistic — recognising the importance of wellbeing, confidence, and connection alongside practical help. The World Art Day competition offered a small but meaningful example of what that looks like in action.

Creative projects like this are about far more than art. They’re about inclusion, belonging, and providing opportunities for people to feel seen and heard.

Thank you to everyone who took part, shared their creativity, and helped make the Redditch Hub feel even more like a place built by and for its community.
