Calling all Garden Enthusiasts

We’re looking for kind, supportive volunteers to join us in developing the Maggs Allotment, a therapeutic outdoor space where people experiencing homelessness can grow food, learn new skills, connect with others and rebuild confidence.

What Makes This Project Special

Gardening offers more than fresh air and vegetables. It provides a calm environment, routine, purpose and the chance to achieve something tangible. For many people who access our services, having a place to grow and nurture is a powerful way to build confidence, improve wellbeing and feel part of a community.

Our allotment will host small group sessions led by Maggs staff, giving service users the opportunity to take part at their own pace in a supportive, non‑judgemental setting.

Your Role as a Volunteer

Volunteers play a key role in creating a positive experience for everyone involved. Tasks include:

  • Helping with planting, watering, weeding and general upkeep
  • Supporting staff during small group sessions
  • Encouraging people to get involved and build confidence
  • Helping create a warm, inclusive, safe space for all
  • Supporting safe use of tools and equipment
  • Assisting with setting up and packing down sessions

Time Commitment

We offer flexible volunteering, typically:

  • 1–2 sessions per week
  • 2–3 hours per session
  • Sessions running on set days (e.g. Tuesday & Friday afternoons)

If you enjoy being outdoors, working alongside others and supporting people in a gentle, encouraging way, this could be a perfect fit. You don’t need to be a gardening expert — just someone who is friendly, reliable, patient and keen to make a difference.
