We are looking for kind sponsors to help provide food or monetary donations for lunches once a week in our Worcester Day Centre!

As part of a new collaboration with the Heart of Worcestershire College’s SEN department and Maggs, students are planned to come into the day centre every Thursday to provide our service users with a cooked lunch throughout the next academic year as part of their work experience module.

Melissa, our Marketing and Relations Manager explains: “We are delighted to have this wonderful opportunity with the students from the SEN department. However, we need certain food items to allow this project to come to fruition, so we’re looking for kind people to help lighten the monetary load and help us bring this opportunity to life!”

“Even a donation of £10 could help, not only to help students secure invaluable work experience but also so our service users get to enjoy a weekly homecooked lunch at least once a week alongside their bespoke support from our team. Those small gestures truly can transform someone’s life and give them something to look forward to.”

As a charity, we currently provide cooked breakfasts for rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation every morning in both their Worcester and Malvern open-door day centres.

Throughout 2023, our Worcester Day Centre welcomed 287 unique visitors to access our services, whether this be for food, support or their clothes washing and drying facilities and showers.

Amy Miller, Work Experience Learning Supervisor in the SEN Department at HOW College, confirms: “As a part of the supported employment and forward focus criteria in our SEN curriculum, we were delighted to be approached by the Maggs team to offer a unique opportunity to cook a weekly lunch in their day centre.”

“The hope is that we can help our students build initial skills for the working world whilst giving them insight into vulnerable lives and homelessness, especially as the Worcester day centre is next door to us!

“Additionally, as a college, we also promote sustainability and ensure that we maximise all food produce to minimise any waste so we will be incorporating this into our menu plan and making the most of all food donations.”
