Last week we were delighted to welcome back the students from Heart of Worcester College’s SEN department for the second year of our partnership.
Every week during term-time, the students join us in the Worcester Day Centre kitchen, preparing and cooking hearty lunches for those who rely on Maggs. It’s a project that not only provides nutritious meals but also offers the students valuable opportunities to build skills, confidence and community connections.
The partnership has already made a huge impact. Last year, the students cooked hundreds of meals that were enjoyed by our service users, who always look forward to “student day” on the lunch rota. For the students, the project is a chance to develop practical experience in a real kitchen environment, while making a tangible difference to people’s lives.
Melissa, our Fundraising, Communications & Relationships Manager, said:
“We’re so proud to welcome the students back into our kitchen. Their enthusiasm and hard work shine through in every meal they prepare, and it’s wonderful to see the impact this has on both our service users and the students themselves. Partnerships like this remind us how strong our community is when we come together.”
Claire, our Worcester & South Worcs Service Lead, added:
“The students bring such energy into the Day Centre each week. For our clients, it’s more than just a meal — it’s a sign that they are cared for and supported by their community. For the students, it’s a valuable opportunity to gain confidence and skills in a real working environment. It’s a win-win.”
We are so proud to continue this collaboration and to see the enthusiasm, teamwork and care the students bring each week. Their energy lights up our kitchen and reminds us what true inclusion looks like in practice.
💙 How you can help
With the cost of food and energy continuing to rise, we rely more than ever on donations to keep projects like this going. Every pound given helps us provide the ingredients, resources and support needed to turn the students’ efforts into warm, nourishing meals.
If you’d like to support this partnership and the work we do at Maggs, please consider making a donation today.
Together, we can ensure no one in our community goes hungry, while also supporting young people to gain vital skills and experiences.
