After the success of our special August bank holiday lunch last year, the team were super keen to be able to do the same again and host something exciting for the long weekend.

With services typically closed nationally, it’s harder to provide practical support so why not bring the focus of food to the forefront?

Through the power of social media, we were kindly approached by Sam, CEO at Worcester BID and Helen, who very generously offered to donate burgers, chips, buns and sauces to help us provide lunch for at least 30 people.

Liam, one of our Support Workers at the Worcester Day Centre, explains: “The entire day was a huge success, with great feedback from our service users on the lunch offering alongside the usual cooked breakfast. These small gestures can make such a huge difference to those who have so little and reassurance that there are people out there who want the best for them.”

“Thank you to Sam and Helen, alongside the other members of the public who took the time to bring lots of goodies to make the day as special as possible. Also a big thank you to the volunteers who took the time out of their bank holiday to prepare and cook the lunches as well, we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Our Worcester Day Centre provides cooked breakfasts for rough sleepers and those in temporary accommodation with no means of cooking or preparing food. Our services boast a team of support workers who can assist with anything from housing, applying for benefits, booking GP appointments, and much more.

Sam McCarthy, CEO at Worcester BID, confirms: “I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to support the amazing work Maggs is doing for our community by donating 30 burgers for their free bank holiday lunch for the vulnerable.”

“It’s truly inspiring to see all of their hard work and I’m proud to play a small part in their efforts today!”
