At Maggs, we know that sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the biggest difference. A warm meal, a friendly face, and a welcoming space can go a long way in helping people feel supported, connected and valued.
This was especially clear at our Redditch drop-in this week, where we were delighted to welcome Hazel and Matt from Balens, who generously gave their time to provide a hot, home-cooked meal for our service users.
The duo went above and beyond to make the day a success. Having prepped the ingredients the night before, they arrived ready to cook a delicious and nutritious chilli from scratch. As a team of just two, they served around 20 people, with the meal being thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.
And their impact didn’t stop there. Any leftovers were thoughtfully shared, allowing service users to take a portion away for later, extending that care and support beyond the session itself.
Hazel and Matt didn’t just cook and serve; they stayed throughout the drop-in, chatting with service users and supporting the team, before helping to clear up at the end of the session. Their kindness, dedication and willingness to get involved made a real difference to the atmosphere of the day.
More than a meal
Moments like these are particularly meaningful during Mental Health Awareness Week. Sharing a meal together is about more than just food. It creates opportunities for connection, conversation and a sense of community, all of which play an important role in supporting mental wellbeing.
Thank you to Hazel and Matt
We’re incredibly grateful to Hazel and Matt, and to Balens, for their generosity and support. It’s acts of kindness like this that help us continue creating safe, welcoming spaces for people experiencing homelessness and complex needs.
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
