It’s hard to believe that six months have already passed since we opened our new hub in Redditch town centre, bringing practical, person‑centred support closer to people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

As the hub reaches this milestone, we wanted to take a moment to reflect this important addition to Maggs’ services and reflect on the difference it’s already making locally.

What is the Redditch Hub?

The Redditch hub is part of our hub-and-spoke model, designed to meet people where they are and reduce the barriers that can make support feel complex or out of reach.

It provides an accessible, welcoming point of contact for local people navigating homelessness, insecure housing, and related challenges. A place where people are listened to, understood, and supported without judgement.

Like all Maggs services, the Hub is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, it focuses on building trust over time, responding to individual needs, and supporting people at their own pace.

Who does the hub support?

People accessing the Redditch hub are often navigating multiple and overlapping challenges, including housing insecurity, poor mental health, trauma, substance use, physical health needs, and financial hardship.

For many, travelling to larger centres or navigating fragmented support systems can act as a barrier in itself. Having support available locally helps reduce those barriers and enables earlier engagement, often before situations reach crisis point.

Over the past six months:

  • 100 individuals have been supported through the Redditch hub and outreach
  • 91 people have received mental health support
  • 89 people have been supported with physical health needs
  • 98 people have been supported to manage and maximise their benefits

Alongside one-to-one and outreach support, the hub hosts weekly drop-in sessions, creating low-pressure, informal opportunities for people to engage.

Through these sessions:

  • 31 visits have taken place across 22 individuals
    • support has included mental health, physical health and benefits advice
  • 15 harm reduction interventions have been delivered
    • including 2 Naloxone kits and 3 needle and syringe programme kits

These sessions play a vital role in making support feel approachable, flexible and responsive, particularly for those who may feel hesitant about engaging with services elsewhere.

Behind every figure is a person working to regain stability, dignity and a sense of direction.

Why The Redditch Hub Matters

Like many towns, Redditch experiences high levels of hidden homelessness, including people sofa surfing, living in unsafe accommodation, or existing one step away from crisis.

These situations often go unseen until they escalate.

By being present locally, our team helps to reduce isolation, provide early intervention, and connect people with the right services at the right time.

When support is accessible earlier, outcomes improve, not just for individual health and housing stability, but for the wider community too.

What Impact Really Looks Like

The true impact of the Redditch hub isn’t always dramatic or immediate. More often, it shows up in small but meaningful ways:

  • Someone deciding to engage after months of hesitation,
  • A referral followed through,
  • A conversation that opens the door to wider support

These moments may seem small, but they are often the starting point for lasting change.

Looking Ahead

We’re so proud of what has been built so far, and deeply grateful to everyone who has made it possible.

As the Redditch hub continues to grow, our focus remains the same: providing compassionate, practical, person‑centred support that reflects the realities of people’s lives and meets them where they are.

If these past six months have shown us anything, it is this: the need is real, the impact is tangible, and this work matters.

Supporting the Future of the Redditch Hub

The Redditch Hub is funded entirely through grants, trusts and the generosity of public donations. Every conversation, hot drink, practical intervention and moment of support shared within the Hub is only possible because of people choosing to stand alongside Maggs and the communities we support.

As demand continues to rise across North Worcestershire, ongoing support will play a vital role in helping us keep the Hub open and accessible for those who need it most.

If you would like to support the work of the Redditch Hub, please consider donating or getting involved.
