“Crisis support became the first step towards stability.”

When Michael first accessed Maggs, he was rough sleeping locally with his dog and struggling to manage day-to-day life safely.

Initially, he came to the day centre for practical support including food, showers, laundry and clothing. Over time, regular contact helped staff build trust and understand the wider challenges he was facing.

As his situation became more difficult where he was sleeping, Michael felt able to approach the team for support. Through ongoing engagement and partnership working with local services, he was supported to access wider help and move away from rough sleeping.

Michael has since moved into accommodation and continues to engage with support as he rebuilds stability in his life.

CRISIS SUPPORT

More than immediate support

Crisis support at Maggs is not just about meeting urgent needs — it’s about creating a starting point for longer-term change.

Our team provides:

  • Triage and initial assessment to understand immediate risks and needs
  • Safeguarding support where individuals may be vulnerable
  • Active referrals into housing, health, and specialist services
  • Ongoing engagement, building trust over time

We work closely with local authorities, health services, and community partners to ensure individuals are supported beyond their immediate crisis.

WHY THIS MATTERS? We are stabilising crisis and preventing escalation

Early support prevents situations from worsening.

By providing immediate access to food, hygiene, and support, we help:

  • Reduce the need for emergency healthcare and crisis services
  • Prevent rough sleeping from escalating
  • Enable earlier intervention from housing and health partners
  • Create pathways into longer-term support

This early intervention plays a vital role in reducing pressure on wider public services.
