Trustee
Avril Gilmore
Charity Chair
Having worked in the Probation Service across Worcestershire for over 20 years, Avril became familiar with the difficulties and needs facing groups of transitory and homeless people. Avril transferred into health service management within Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership to develop and manage Drug and Alcohol Services for Offenders. Alongside this, Avril assisted in setting up a consortium of statutory health and charity sector providers to build an integrated drug and alcohol service for Worcestershire in 2011. However, Avril’s links with Maggs go right back to the beginning when Maggs was launched. As a newly qualified probation officer in Worcester, Avril worked shifts at the Day Centre, working with probation service clients and those at risk of offending due to homelessness, isolation, and poverty.

Our goal is not just to support rough sleepers in their situation, but to help them to make the changes necessary for them to change their lifestyle, by dealing with the issues that hold them back, like lack of confidence, substance abuse, or poor health, so that they can access permanent housing and return to a conventional lifestyle off the streets.
