OUR IMPACT

How We Create Lasting Change

At Maggs, we know that real change doesn’t happen overnight — it happens step by step, with the right support at the right time.

We start by meeting immediate needs, providing food, clothing, and a safe, welcoming space for people in crisis. From there, we work alongside each individual to build stability — supporting access to healthcare, housing, and practical advice.

But our work doesn’t stop there.

Through strong partnerships across Worcestershire, we connect people into wider services and opportunities, helping them move forward with confidence and independence.

Our approach is responsive, inclusive, and rooted in compassion — focused not just on meeting urgent needs, but on helping people build long-term stability and more sustainable futures.

Our Impact - At a Glance

These figures reflect not just the scale of our work, but the real difference made when the right support is there at the right time.

Each number represents a moment of compassion and practical support — from meals, clothing, and hygiene, to longer-term help with housing, healthcare, and recovery.

Behind every number is a person, and a step towards stability.

Our Impact

Sophie's Story

When Sophie was referred to Maggs in October 2025, she was street homeless after fleeing exploitation, county lines involvement, and domestic abuse. After sofa surfing briefly, she was forced to sleep rough — in a highly vulnerable state, struggling with her mental health, substance use, and a loss of confidence and self-worth.

Through consistent, trauma-informed support, Maggs worked alongside Sophie to rebuild stability. We coordinated with housing, health, and partner agencies to secure temporary accommodation, provided essentials to make it safe and liveable, and carried out regular visits to ensure she remained supported. At the same time, safeguarding measures and mental health referrals were put in place, while Sophie began exploring recovery options — motivated by her goal of one day being reunited with her children.

With the right support at the right time, Sophie’s situation began to change. She was supported into her own tenancy, where her confidence grew and she began planning for her future. She made the decision to stop using substances and took proud steps forward in her recovery, before moving into a rehabilitation placement to continue her journey.

Sophie is now on a path towards stability, recovery, and independence — a journey made possible through persistence, partnership, and the right support at the right time.

How We Stabilise Lives

At Maggs, our gateway model provides a safe and welcoming starting point for people who may feel unable to access support elsewhere.

Through our Day Centres, Hub and Outreach work, individuals can come to us without pressure and receive immediate help with essentials like food, clothing, and housing advice.

From there, we work in partnership across Worcestershire to connect people into a wider network of support — including housing, health, mental health, and community services.

Our casework is compassionate, consistent, and tailored to each person. We take time to build trust, address deeper challenges, and support people to regain stability at a pace that feels right for them.

Together, this joined-up approach helps people move from crisis towards safety, confidence, and long-term independence.

Health & Wellbeing

We believe that health is a human right — never a privilege. That’s why we work to bring essential care directly to the people who need it most. From GP registrations and mental health referrals to nurses, dentists, and harm reduction support, we make sure no one is left behind simply because the system is hard to access.

This is a vital part of our commitment to providing responsive, inclusive support that meets people where they are.

Clothing & Dignity

For someone sleeping rough or without access to clean clothing, the right layers offer far more than warmth or comfort — they provide dignity, visibility, and the quiet reassurance that someone genuinely cares. Every coat, jumper, and pair of shoes is a small but meaningful step toward restoring confidence and hope.

In 2025, our Clothing Project supported 343 individuals through 1,856 clothing visits, ensuring people had the essentials they needed to feel seen, valued, and supported.

Because feeling seen and valued is a crucial step towards rebuilding confidence and moving forward.

Harm Reduction

At Maggs, we recognise that substance use is a reality for many of the people we support, and that stopping entirely isn’t always immediate, possible, or the right goal for everyone. That’s why harm reduction is such an important part of our work.

Harm reduction doesn’t require someone to stop using substances. Instead, it meets people exactly where they are — offering non‑judgmental support focused on safer use, managed use, or abstinence, depending on each person’s needs, goals, and circumstances. It’s about reducing risk, increasing safety, and helping people move forward at a pace that feels achievable for them.

This approach helps reduce immediate risk while supporting people to move towards safer, more stable futures.

Volunteer & Community Contribution

At Maggs, we know that real change happens when people come together. Our volunteers and community supporters are at the heart of everything we do, and the past year has shown just how powerful that collective effort can be.

Every meal served, every item of clothing sorted, and every conversation shared has been made possible because of people like you.

From dedicated volunteers giving their time week after week, to local businesses offering skills, materials and hands‑on help, our work simply wouldn’t be the same without them.

Over the last year, we’ve seen firsthand how compassion can grow into action. Corporate teams have rolled up their sleeves on our allotment, community groups have organised fundraising events, and volunteers have continued to show up with warmth, patience and open hearts. Together, you’ve helped us create safer spaces, stronger support, and more opportunities for people experiencing homelessness to rebuild their lives.

This collective spirit is what makes Maggs special. It’s proof that when a community comes together with purpose, effective and lasting change becomes possible.

Our Impact in 2025

Volunteer Impact

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

From preparing meals and offering a listening ear, to helping deliver frontline services, their contribution is not just valuable — it is essential.

Every moment of care and support shared reflects the strength of our community and the difference people can make when they come together.

We are proud to support Maggs Day Centre and the essential work they do within our community... it is wonderful to see that shared goodwill translated into practical support for those facing difficult circumstances.

Our Impact

Tim's Story

When Tim first came to our Maggs base in Redditch, he was in crisis. For three months he had been forced to live in his car due to circumstances beyond his control. When he finally secured a property in Redditch, he found himself without furniture, sleeping on the kitchen floor, and struggling to manage the many challenges of starting again.

English is not Tim’s first language — he is fluent in Hungarian — which made navigating systems around housing, bills, and benefits extremely difficult. He was also unemployed, anxious about losing his flat, and unsure of where to turn.

With the right support at the right time, Tim was able to rebuild his life step by step — a journey made possible through the support of our community.

Supporting Tim into Stability

The Maggs team worked to support Tim and help him rebuild his life step by step:

Housing & Utilities

We set up Tim’s utilities, council tax, and amended his Universal Credit claim to include housing costs. A request was made through the council for Tim’s rent to be paid directly to his landlord, and we also referred him to Act on Energy for support with managing his bills.

Furniture & Essentials

Recognising that Tim had no furniture, we submitted a New Start application so that he would have the basic essentials to make his flat a home.

Employment Support

We connected Tim with Individual Placement Support, who are working with him to explore employment opportunities.

Because homelessness isn’t inevitable — and together, we can be part of the solution.

Through our 2025–2028 strategy, we are building on this work to reach more people, strengthen our partnerships, and create lasting, meaningful change across Worcestershire.
