We simply couldn’t offer some of the vital services we do without the wonderful support of our volunteers.

Research shows that being a volunteer can support our mental health, build self-esteem, and help us to become socially engaged with our community. Here at Maggs we are a community, a group of people who care about and for  the homeless and vulnerable of Worcester.  If you are considering becoming a volunteer, we will give you all the training and support you will need. You don’t need any experience, but you might come to us with a wide range of skills  which can benefit both our team and our service users. We cover daily travel expenses and provide hot drinks and snacks while you are with us.

Our volunteering roles are very flexible and, even if you can’t see a vacancy which suits you – get in touch, we can always use new ideas and often need additional help with a range of projects. Our volunteers are usually with us for at least one shift which would be 4 hours a week, some take on more.  Our current roles are mornings only with a 9:00 start.

Our current roles include:

  • Hospitality
  • Retail
  • Admin
  • Courier
  • Activities

The key skills and qualities for all our volunteers include the ability to listen to,  communicate with and engage with our service users in a kind, compassionate manner.  There is plenty of humour and warmth in our settings which we all value.  We need reliability and commitment because we are a small team and consistency is important for our most vulnerable service users, although there is plenty of flexibility as you identify the sessions you are available for the following month before the rota is drawn up and circulated.

If you would like to explore our volunteering opportunities, please complete the Application Form and the volunteer co-ordinator will then invite you to visit the venues so that you can really get a feel for what we do.

If you then chose to progress your application, it will all happen quite quickly but very much at your pace.  Initially, you will always be placed with an experienced volunteer who will guide and support you as you settle into the Maggs community.
