Client Stories
Our clients come from many varied walks of life, and there are as many stories as there are individuals. The people we deal with often find themselves homeless and on the streets through no fault of their own - mental health issues, family problems, unemployment or just circumstance. On this page you will find just a few of their stories...
"My name's Bobby.
My dad died when I was twelve and my mum remarried.
My step dad didn't like me very much and we used to argue a lot. He used to hit me and it made my mum cry.
I knew she and my sister would be better off if I wasn't around.
So I ran away and now I'm sleeping rough."
"Hi, my name's Susie.
I was in care till I was sixteen and when I left they got me a flat and I started on a course in hairdressing.
Then I met this guy and he moved into my flat and started taking my money off me.
He got me into heroin and he made me steal from shops to pay for his habit and mine.
I dropped out of my course and I couldn't pay my rent.
Now I stay wherever I can. At the moment I'm in a squat."
"Hello, I'm Adam.
Five years ago I had a wife and kids, and a nice house and a good job.
I was the manager of a shop and I had ten people working for me.
When my wife left me she took the kids and it broke my heart.
I've always liked a drink but after my marriage broke up I really hit the bottle.
Now I can't manage without it. I need the booze just to keep me feeling OK."
"Hi, I'm Pete.
I've just got out of prison.
I did five years for GBH. I'm not proud of what I did but I've learnt my lesson the hard way.
Trouble is, none of my family or my friends want to know me any more, and of course no-one wants to give an ex-con a job.
The resettlement people at the prison got me a place in a hostel but I can't stay there, I need a place of my own."
